So you are thinking about booking a newborn session? That is great news!

First of all, congratulations on this special journey!

One of the first questions you might be wondering is when you should book your newborn session with Jeff and Kari Photography. In this blog, we'll explain our process for booking your newborn session in advance and the best time to get in touch.

When is the Best Time for a Newborn Photo Shoot?

Before looking into when to book your newborn session, first, it's easier to understand when the newborn session is held.

We specialize in posed newborn photography, meaning all images have a studio look to them. For this style of photography, our preferred ideal window for a newborn session is between 8 to 10 days of life. On certain occasions, we can go as early as 5 days of life, but that varies on a case-by-case basis.

Why do we prefer to have photoshoots during this time? There are two reasons. First, newborns are typically very sleepy, and second, most babies still enjoy being in the "curly" fetal position.

These two reasons make the newborn poses comfortable for your baby and it means that they are more likely to be settled and relaxed throughout the session.

When to Book Your Newborn Photo Shoot?

With all this in mind, the best time to book your photo shoot is in your second trimester. This would be around your 13 weeks to 26 weeks of pregnancy. You can contact us via email at jeffkariphoto@gmail.com, text, or call us at 401-536-2789.

The majority of newborns are not born on their actual due date. When you contact, we won't actually set a date for your session unless you do know exactly when your baby will be born - for example, if you are having a planned C-section.

So instead, we make a note of your due date and ask you to contact us as soon as you give birth. At this point, we'll set a definitive date for your session to make sure we schedule for that 1 to 2 week of life window.

My Baby Is Already Here! Is It Too Late to Book?

Many families start thinking about newborn portraits after the baby is born. If you find yourself in this situation you are not alone.

If your baby has already been born, please reach out to check last-minute availability. Sometimes babies arrive a little earlier or later than planned, and we may be able to squeeze you in.

If your baby is past the two-week to three-week window, you don't have to miss out. We regularly photograph "older newborns" up to 6 weeks of life. In such cases, we have carefully chosen setups suitable for older newborns.

Ready To Book? Here's What Happens Next...

To book your newborn shoot please fill out this form letting us know you'd like to book and in the message box, type in your estimated due date or your baby's birth date if they've already been born.

We will get back to you within 24 hours.

Once we can talk, we'll send you an invoice for the retainer fee to retain our services. This fee is $50 which is paid by you and deducted from the total price.

Between then and your session we will discuss your style so that we can create your session. As the date gets closer, we will send tips to help prepare yourself, your family, and your baby for the session.
